The Short Answer

What we do, in one paragraph

HOU Digital Marketing manages Google Ads for service businesses across Houston and Texas. Campaigns are built inside your own ad account, management is a flat monthly fee from $500 rather than a percentage of spend, and agreements are month to month. Ad spend is paid directly to Google and is never marked up.

Most Houston businesses do not have a Google Ads problem. They have a configuration problem. Broad match left switched on, no negative keyword list, a targeting radius that reaches Beaumont, and paid traffic landing on a homepage instead of a page built to convert. We fix the configuration first, then scale only what proves out.

Whether you call it a Google Ads agency, a Google Ads consultant or a PPC company, the job is the same: someone accountable for your account every week. At HOU Digital Marketing that person is Mukesh Kumar, who leads strategy on every account.

Definition

What does a Google Ads management company actually do?

A Google Ads management company builds, monitors, and optimizes your paid search campaigns. The work covers keyword and negative keyword research, campaign structure, ad copy testing, bid and budget management, location and schedule targeting, conversion tracking, landing page guidance, and reporting. The agency charges a management fee; ad spend is paid to Google separately. Google Ads was called AdWords until 2018.

The detail that decides how much you spend is where the fee comes from. An agency paid a percentage of your ad spend earns more when you spend more. An agency paid a flat fee does not. We charge flat.

Diagnostics

Already running Google Ads? Here is what is usually broken.

Google Ads account report example

A real search terms report. Every wasted row was budget spent on a search that was never going to convert.

If the phone is not ringing, competitors show up first, you cannot wait a year for SEO, or past ads burned money on clicks that never called, the cause is usually in the account settings. Five settings account for most wasted Google Ads spend: broad match keywords with no negative keyword list, location targeting set as a wide radius rather than a defined service area, ads pointing at a homepage instead of a dedicated landing page, conversion tracking measuring page views rather than leads, and an account nobody has logged into in the past month.

1

Wrong keywords. You are bidding on broad terms that attract browsers, not buyers.

2

No negative keywords. You are paying for searches containing jobs, free, salary, and DIY

3

Sloppy location targeting. Your ads are showing to people 50 miles outside your service area.

4

Set and forget. Nobody has logged into the account in 30 days to optimize.

5

Poor landing pages. You are sending traffic to your homepage instead of a dedicated conversion page

We see it constantly. A business puts $5,000 to $10,000 into Google Ads, gets frustrated, and quits, never realizing the account was misconfigured from day one.

How We Work

No markup. No lock-in. Your account.

Four things separate how we run an account: the ad account stays in your name, the fee is flat rather than a percentage of spend, agreements are month to month, and reporting measures leads and calls rather than impressions. Together they mean the agency has to keep earning the work every month.

Flat fee, never a percentage

Our fee is identical whether your budget is $1,000 or $10,000. An agency paid on a percentage has a reason to spend more of your money. We do not.

Negative keywords worked weekly

Search terms drift. The list that protected your budget in month one does not protect it in month four unless somebody keeps working it.

Tracking fixed before bidding

If page views are recorded as conversions, every report you have read is wrong and so is every bid Google has placed on your behalf. We fix that first.

Work does not stop at 5 PM

A global delivery team means optimization continues outside Houston business hours.

You keep every account

Search Console, Analytics and the ad account stay in your name. You pay Google directly.

Numbers that pay

Qualified leads, phone calls and booked jobs. Impressions and average position are diagnostics, not results.

Channels

The campaign types we run, and when

We do not believe in set-and-forget. We deploy the campaign types that match your business model, not all of them by default.

Campaign type
Best for
Why it works
Local Services Ads
Plumbers, HVAC, lawyers
The Google Guaranteed badge builds instant trust and you pay per qualified call, not per click. We handle the verification process to get you badged faster.
Search campaigns
Medical, legal, B2B
High-intent targeting on bottom-of-funnel keywords such as emergency dentist near me, with a negative keyword list maintained weekly to filter the rest.
Performance Max
Retail, ecommerce
Google's machine learning finds customers across YouTube, Gmail, Maps and Search. It amplifies whatever conversion signal you give it, including a bad one.
Display and retargeting
Most industries
Bring back the visitors who left without calling, at a fraction of search cost per click. Restricted for healthcare advertisers.

We also run Shopping and YouTube campaigns where they fit.

Healthcare

Running a medical or healthcare practice? Healthcare advertising carries targeting restrictions most industries never encounter.

Transparency

The Anti-Agency Promise

Google Ads account report example

The dashboard every client gets. Spend, leads and cost per lead, open any day of the month.

We constantly hear horror stories about agencies holding ad accounts hostage. That ends here.

1

You own the account. We build campaigns inside your ad account. If we ever part ways, you keep the data, the keywords, the search term history and the Quality Score. It is your asset, permanently.

2

No black box fees. We charge a flat management fee and never mark up your ad spend. You pay Google directly, so you know where every cent goes.

3

Real-time dashboards. No PDF reports three weeks late. Clients get a live Looker Studio dashboard showing leads, spend and cost per lead, open any day.

4

Month to month, always. No twelve-month agreement. If we underdeliver, you leave. That is what makes everything else on this page enforceable rather than decorative.

Straight Numbers

How much does Google Ads management cost in Houston?

HOU Digital Marketing charges a flat monthly management fee of $500, $1,000, or $1,500 depending on ad spend and channel mix. Billing is month to month with no setup fee and no long-term contract. Ad spend is separate, paid directly to Google, and we never take a percentage of it.

Starter
$500

per month, flat

Best for ad spend under $2,000/mo

Scale
$1,000

per month, flat

Best for ad spend $2,000 to $5,000/mo

Full Channel
$1,500

per month, flat

No hidden setup fees. No percentage-of-spend traps that reward us for wasting your money. Every plan is month to month, so we earn your business every 30 days.

Budget

How much should a Houston business spend on ads?

We recommend a minimum of $1,000 a month in ad spend so Google's bidding collects enough conversion data to optimize. Competitive Houston categories such as legal, HVAC, and medical usually need $3,000 to $5,000 a month for consistent lead flow. The right number comes from a forecast built on real search volume in your service area.

Competition level
Typical monthly ad spend
Low, niche services
Ignore it and set budgets from cost per lead alone.
Medium, home services and retail
$3,000 to $5,000
High, legal, medical, insurance
$5,000 to $15,000

One honest limit. Below roughly $1,000 a month, the algorithm does not gather enough data to learn and neither do we. For a business testing a single service line that can still be worth doing. For a multi-location company it rarely is. We will tell you which one you are on the call rather than take the account and hope.

The Right Metric

Which Google Ads metric should your business actually optimize?

It depends on what limits your growth. A business with spare capacity that needs to be found should optimize for clicks and impression share. A business with limited capacity, such as a medical practice with a fixed number of appointment slots, should optimize for cost per booked appointment instead. Optimizing the wrong one wastes budget in both directions.

If your business is
The metric that matters
Why
The mistake to avoid
New, or entering a new service area
Cost per click and impression share
You need to be found before you can be chosen. Volume of qualified traffic is the constraint.
Optimizing to conversions too early. There is not enough data yet and the algorithm starves.
Capacity limited, such as a medical or professional practice
Cost per booked appointment
You cannot serve unlimited patients. A hundred cheap leads you cannot see is not a win.
Celebrating cost per lead. A lead that never books is a cost, not a result.
Ecommerce or retail
Return on ad spend
Revenue per dollar is directly measurable at the transaction.
Judging on cost per click. A cheap click on an unprofitable product is a loss.
Emergency home services
Cost per answered call
The job is won on the phone, usually within minutes.
Counting form fills. Nobody fills in a form when the water is rising.

Example from a Houston practice

A Houston psychiatric practice

The account was live but starved. Budget was too small for Google’s bidding to learn, cost per acquisition was high, and conversion volume was too low to optimize against. We started small to establish a clean baseline, aligned search themes to high-intent condition terms, then scaled budget once the winning patterns held.

Channel Choice

Google Ads or SEO: which should you start with?

Google Ads places you at the top of Houston search results within days and stops the moment you stop paying. SEO takes three to six months to build and continues working afterward. Most Houston service businesses run both: ads for immediate lead flow, SEO for the asset that lowers blended cost per lead over time.

Google Ads

Stops the same day

We run both. See our Houston SEO services.

A Fair Fight

Five questions to ask any Google Ads agency

Google Ads account report example

Take this list to every agency you speak to. Including us.

1

Whose ad account is it? If the agency owns it, you lose the keyword history, the conversion data and the Quality Score the day you leave.

2

How are you paid? A percentage of ad spend rewards the agency for spending more of your money. A flat fee does not.

3

Who is in the account, and how often? Ask for a name and a login cadence, not a department.

4

What counts as a conversion? If the answer is clicks, impressions or page views, the reporting is decorative.

5

What happens in month one if it does not work? There should be an answer that does not involve a contract.

Ask us the same five. We built the company to pass all of them.

General Questions

Google Ads Management Frequently Asked Questions

Google Ads is faster than SEO. Leads typically start flowing within 48 to 72 hours of launch. Dialling in the optimal cost per lead usually takes one to two billing cycles, 30 to 60 days, as we gather conversion data and build out the negative keyword list.

We recommend a minimum ad spend of $1,000 a month to give Google's bidding enough data to work with. Competitive Houston industries such as legal, HVAC or medical may need $3,000 to $5,000 a month for consistent lead flow. We build a forecast from actual search volume in your area during the consultation.

Ad spend goes directly to Google, you pay them, not us. Management fees are what you pay HOU Digital Marketing to build, monitor and optimize your campaigns. We never mark up your ad spend. We use flat-rate pricing between $500 and $1,500 so our incentives stay aligned with yours.

It depends on what limits your growth. If you have capacity to fill and need to be found, clicks and impression share are the right early measure. If your capacity is fixed, cost per booked job or appointment is the only number that matters. We set this with you before launch rather than after.

We hear this constantly. The most common reasons are wrong keywords, no negative keyword management, poor landing pages, or nobody actively optimizing the account. On a free 30-minute strategy call we will show you what went wrong and whether it is worth trying again. Sometimes the honest answer is no.

Yes. Since you own the account, you can pause anytime. We recommend running at least 90 days to gather enough data, but there are no long-term contracts. If you need to pause for capacity or seasonality, that is fine.

We work month to month, so if you are not seeing ROI you can cancel anytime. That said, expectations need to be realistic. In a competitive market on a $1,000 monthly budget you will not dominate. We will be transparent about what is achievable during the forecast call.

Yes. LSA is separate from standard Google Ads but managed in the same Google account. We handle the Google Guaranteed verification process, lead management and optimization. LSA works best for home services, legal and certain healthcare providers.

Google's default settings are built to spend your budget. Broad match, display expansion and automatic location targeting are all on by default and each one widens who sees your ads. Much of the first month's work is turning things off. If your budget is small enough that a management fee is a large share of it, we will say so.

Yes, and healthcare advertising works differently. Google restricts audience targeting based on health conditions, which limits remarketing and Customer Match for medical advertisers, and conversion tracking on a practice website needs care. See our page on Google Ads for doctors and medical practices.
