The Definition

What is Squarespace website design for law firms?

Squarespace website design for law firms is the work of building an attorney or firm website on Squarespace so that prospective clients trust it and search engines can rank it. It combines a credible, fast design with a dedicated page for each practice area, attorney profiles carrying bar admissions and credentials, hand-written LegalService and FAQ schema, local search signals, and copy written to sit comfortably with attorney advertising rules.

The part most firms underestimate is structure. A single "Practice Areas" page listing eight areas competes with itself and ranks for none of them. Eight pages, each answering one client's question properly, is a different website entirely.

Think about when people actually find your firm. It is rarely office hours. It is a Sunday night after an arrest, or a Tuesday lunch break spent reading three firm websites on a phone in a parking garage, or the week after a diagnosis when someone finally sits down to sort out a will. They are anxious, they are comparing, and they are deciding in about four seconds whether you look like someone who handles this every day.

So the website has to do the quiet work. Credentials where people look. Plain answers to the questions nobody wants to ask a receptionist, like what this costs and what happens first. And it has to be there at all when they search, which is where most firm websites quietly fail.

We are HOU Digital Marketing, based in Houston. We came to web design from SEO, not the other way round, and that order matters more than it sounds. It means the structure that makes a website findable is in the build, not in a proposal we send you six months later once you notice nothing is happening.

The Checklist

What should a law firm website include?

A law firm website should include a home page, a dedicated page for each practice area, attorney profiles with bar admissions and credentials, an about page, a contact and consultation page, location and directions, FAQs answering the questions clients ask before calling, client reviews where the state bar permits them, required legal disclaimers, a privacy policy, an accessible build, and a visible consultation call to action on every page.

Every firm website has some version of this list. What separates the ones that bring in work is knowing what each page is for, so here is our reasoning rather than just the checklist.

1

Home page

Who you are, what you handle, where you practise, and how to reach you, without scrolling.

2

One page per practice area

The single highest-value decision on a firm website. Family law and criminal defence are different searches by different people.

3

Attorney profiles

Patients search symptoms and conditions, not service names. This is where most practices lose traffic.

4

About the firm

How long you have practised and how you work. Converts the client who is comparing three firms.

5

Consultation and contact

Phone, form, and expectations. Say whether the consultation is free and how quickly someone replies.

6

Location and directions

Office address, parking, and courthouse proximity. Feeds local search and reassures a nervous first-time client.

7

Client FAQs

What happens at a first meeting, what it costs, how long a matter takes. Answers cut call volume and win trust.

8

Reviews or testimonials

Where the State Bar of Texas permits them for your practice area, with any required disclaimer attached.

9

Legal disclaimers

No attorney-client relationship, no legal advice, prior results language. Expected on any credible firm website.

10

Privacy policy

Required by most form and analytics tools, and a trust signal for anyone submitting sensitive details.

11

An accessible build

Readable contrast, keyboard navigation, proper labels. A genuine legal consideration and a ranking factor.

12

Legal and local schema

LegalService, Attorney, and FAQ markup so search engines understand who practises what, and where.

What You Get

What our attorney website design service includes

Whether it is a first website for a lawyer who just went out on their own or a rebuild for a firm whose website has not been touched since 2016, the order of work is the same. Structure around the cases you want first. Make it fast and credible second.

New law firm website design

A custom Squarespace website for your firm, designed to read as credible and built clean, with a dedicated page for every practice area you take.

Attorney website redesign

The firm has grown and the website has not. We rebuild the legal website design around where you are now, while protecting the pages and search visibility you already have.

On-page legal SEO

Practice-area architecture, keyword-mapped headings, and hand-written LegalService schema, so the website is legible to search engines the day it launches.

Packages & Pricing

Law firm website design packages and pricing

Clear, flat, one-time build prices. No hourly meter, no subscription that owns your website. Most firms fit one of these three. If yours needs intake automation or case-management integration, we quote it honestly after a quick look.

Solo and Starter Firm Site

A clean, credible website for a solo attorney or a new firm.

Starting at

$800

one-time build · typical timeline 1 to 2 weeks

Practice Growth Site

A page per practice area, a blog, and deeper SEO for a competitive market.

Most Popular

Redesign with Migration

Move off a rented, dated, or subscription-locked website onto one you own.

Starting at

$1,800

one-time build · typical timeline 3 to 5 weeks

Every package includes the on-page legal SEO groundwork most designers leave out: practice-area structure, headings, titles, and hand-written schema. Local SEO and Google Business Profile work are not part of a build. That is ongoing monthly work, quoted separately, because a one-off local setup that nobody maintains stops helping within months. These are one-time build prices, not monthly retainers, and we confirm a flat quote after a free review. Want the website kept current after launch? See our care plans below. If your firm has outgrown Squarespace and needs to move to WordPress, that is covered on our Squarespace to WordPress migration page.

Straight Numbers

How much does a law firm website cost?

Law firm website design at HOU Digital Marketing starts at $800 for a solo or starter firm website, $1,400 for a growth website with a page per practice area plus a blog, and $1,800 for a full redesign with migration. These are one-time flat starting prices, not monthly retainers and not hourly bills.

What actually moves the number, so you can read anyone else's quote properly too:

How many practice areas you really take. Not the nine listed on the old website, the four you actually want more of. Each real one earns its own page, its own research, and its own copy.

How many attorneys. A solo practice and a twelve-attorney firm are not the same job. Bar admissions, courts, education, and headshots all have to be gathered, checked, and laid out so each bio holds up on its own.

What happens after someone hits send. Routing an enquiry into Clio or a similar system, adding scheduling, or catching after-hours contacts properly is real work, and it is usually the difference between a lead and a missed one.

How deep the SEO goes. Titles and headings done properly is one thing. Keyword research per practice area, plus hand-written schema on every page, is another.

Whether anything is being moved. A migration means mapping every old URL to a new one so the visibility you already paid for in time and money does not evaporate on launch day.

One cost that does not appear on a quote is worth naming: a subscription or directory-hosted website can look cheaper per month and still cost more over three years, because the pages and their search visibility usually end when the subscription does. A website you own carries forward.

Timelines

How long does it take to build a law firm website?

A solo or starter firm website usually takes 1 to 2 weeks, a growth website with a page per practice area takes 2 to 4 weeks, and a redesign with migration takes 3 to 5 weeks. The schedule depends on how quickly attorney bios, headshots, and feedback come back from the firm. We agree the timeline before any work starts.

Search results run on their own schedule. A new firm website is usually indexed within days, but meaningful movement in a competitive Houston practice area typically takes three to six months of consistent work, and personal injury takes longer than most. Anyone promising faster than that in this market is selling you something we will not.

Platform Fit

Is Squarespace good for law firms?

Squarespace suits most small and mid-sized law firms well. It is secure and maintained by the platform, a paralegal or office manager can update attorney bios without a developer, and it supports the custom code needed for hand-written legal schema. It is a weaker fit for firms that need a multilingual website with separate language URLs, a client portal, complex intake automation, or hundreds of location pages. Firms in that position are usually better served by WordPress.

You are going to ask a developer this eventually, so here is the version we would give you on the phone:

Consideration
Squarespace
Worth another platform
Editing without a developer
Strong. Your office manager can update a bio in minutes.
Only if the website is highly custom
Security and maintenance
Handled by the platform. No plugin updates, no patching.
If you have in-house IT and want full control
Practice-area page structure
No limitation. Build as many as the firm needs.
Not a differentiator
Custom legal schema
Supported via code injection, which is how we add it by hand.
Not a differentiator
Speed and Core Web Vitals
Good with disciplined image and block use
A heavily optimized custom build can go further
Multilingual with separate URLs
Limited. A real constraint for immigration firms.
WordPress
Client portal or document exchange
Not native. Needs a third-party tool.
WordPress or a dedicated platform
Complex intake automation
Workable with integrations
WordPress for deep case-management workflows
Dozens of location pages
Becomes unwieldy past a handful.
WordPress

If your firm sits in the right-hand column, we will say so on the call rather than sell you a build that fights the platform. If you are already on Squarespace and have outgrown it, see our Squarespace to WordPress migration page.

Built To Be Found

Law firm website design and legal SEO, built together

A pretty firm website nobody can find is an expensive brass plaque on a door in an empty street. Every build runs through the same groundwork before launch, and none of it is optional.

Practice-area architecture

One page per area, researched and written separately, so each can compete on its own terms.

Credentials in view

Bar admissions, courts, and years practising placed where a client actually looks, not buried on an about page.

Speed and Core Web Vitals

Slow websites lose clients and search visibility together, and legal traffic skews heavily to mobile.

Hand-written schema

LegalService, Attorney, and FAQ markup in JSON-LD, written by hand rather than generated by a plugin.

Local search groundwork

Consistent name, address, and phone details, office location content, and LocalBusiness schema in place before any local campaign starts.

Clear consultation paths

One obvious next step on every page, with the friction questions answered before the ask.

None of this shows up in a screenshot, which is exactly why most designers skip it. It is also the only part that decides whether the website pays for itself.

Houston And Texas

Law firm website design in Houston and across Texas

We are in Houston. Not "serving the greater Houston area" from three states away, actually here, which is why we already know what your firm is up against before you tell us.

The Houston legal market

Houston is not one legal market, it is several with very different search dynamics> Personal injury is among the most contested search categories in Texas, organic and paid, and a new firm website will not walk into it. Immigration demand reflects one of the most internationally connected cities in the country, which makes multilingual search a real question rather than an afterthought. Energy, corporate and commercial work skews toward referral and reputation, so the website's job is credibility rather than volume. Family law and criminal defence are fought locally, often at the suburb level.

Firms we build for across the metro: downtown and the Harris County courthouse district, the Galleria and Uptown, the Energy Corridor, Midtown, The Heights, Sugar Land, Katy, Pearland, Missouri City, Cypress, Spring, and The Woodlands.

Firms across Texas

Outside Houston the work happens online from first call to launch, so the process and the standard are the same whether your firm is in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Fort Worth, or a smaller Texas market where the field is thinner and easier to compete in.

What changes between markets is the competition, not the method. We look at who currently ranks for your practice areas in your city before proposing a page structure, because a plan built for Houston personal injury is overbuilt for an estate planning practice in a town with four competitors.

HOU Digital Marketing is a Texas-registered LLC based in Houston.

Our Legal Build Playbook

How we approach a Houston law firm website build

We could dress up a generic project as a legal case study. Plenty of studios do. Instead, here is the actual playbook we run, the same technical SEO and structured data work we have delivered for professional services and healthcare clients, applied to how legal clients search. Judge it on whether it sounds like someone who has done this.

Our legal build playbook

Practice-area architecture, built to be found

Research first

We start with keyword research on the cases the firm actually wants, not the ones the current website happens to list. Those two lists are almost never the same, and the gap between them is usually where the lost enquiries have been going.

Structure second

A dedicated page per practice area, so each one competes on its own rather than fighting its siblings inside a single overloaded services page. Attorney bios get the same treatment: bar admissions, courts, education, and real background, not a paragraph of adjectives about being passionate and dedicated.

Then the technical layer

Legal and LocalBusiness schema written by hand in JSON-LD, clean heading hierarchy, image optimization, 301 redirects mapped on any migration, and Search Console configured before launch rather than after.

Compliance throughout

Copy is kept free of outcome promises, result claims, and guarantee language so the website sits comfortably with State Bar of Texas advertising expectations. Your firm reviews and approves the final wording and any required disclaimers before we go live.

Our Process

How we build and launch your law firm website

No contracts to sign, no vocabulary you need a translator for. From first message to live website, and the dates you can hold us to.

1

Free 30-minute strategy call

We learn the firm, the practice areas, and the cases you want more of. You get a flat quote and a realistic timeline, with no obligation. Day 1 to 2.

2

Practice-area and keyword planning

Before a page is designed, we map how clients search for each area you take, and turn that into the website's page structure. First week.

3

Design and build

We build on a private staging website, structured around how legal clients search and decide, and you review it as it comes together rather than at the end.

4

SEO and compliance-aware setup

Before launch we handle speed, on-page structure, hand-written schema, and Search Console, and keep the copy clear of outcome promises so it sits well with attorney advertising rules.

5

Launch and support

We take the website live, confirm redirects and forms work, submit to Search Console, and stay reachable. You are not handed a login and left to figure it out.

No Surprises, No Lock-In

What you provide, and what your firm owns after the build

Projects go sideways when nobody said who was doing what. So here it is, both columns, before you spend anything.

What we need from you

Your firm logo and brand colors, if you have them · Attorney names, bios, bar admissions, and headshots · Your practice areas and the cases you want more of · Any disclaimers or advertising wording your firm requires · Access to your current website and domain registrar for a migration · Timely feedback at each review round so the timeline holds.

What your firm owns at the end

The Squarespace account and website, registered in your firm's name · The domain, under your own registrar account · Full editing access with clean, modular blocks · All content, code, and schema we created for you · No retainer lock-in. A care plan is optional.

Optional, after launch

Law firm website maintenance and care plans

Some firms run the website themselves, and our clean build makes that realistic. Others would rather hand it off. Our care plans cover content and attorney updates, new practice-area pages, speed and uptime checks, schema upkeep, and ongoing local search monitoring in Search Console, so the website keeps working instead of drifting.

Care plans are month to month with no long contract. Already have a website and want to compete harder for your practice areas? See our Squarespace SEO services.

By Practice Area

Law firm website design by practice area

Someone facing a charge tonight and someone planning an estate next quarter are not the same visitor. They arrive in a different mood, read at a different speed, and want different things in the first paragraph. Our law firm web design gives each one its own page rather than making them share.

Why Firms Choose HOU

Why Houston law firms choose HOU Digital Marketing

You skip the middleman, the markup, and the guesswork. What that actually means day to day:

SEO comes first

We came to web design from search. The structure that makes a website findable is built in, not sold to you afterwards as an upgrade.

No outsourcing

The person who quotes your project is the person who builds it. There is no junior team behind the scenes.

Straight answers

If Squarespace is wrong for your firm, we say so on the call. We do not guarantee rankings or case volume, and we will tell you that too.

You own everything

The website, the domain, the content, the schema. Nothing is rented and nothing disappears if you stop working with us.

Squarespace suits most small and mid-sized law firms well. It is a weaker fit for firms that need a multilingual website with separate language URLs, a client portal, complex intake automation, or hundreds of location pages. These are one-time flat starting prices, not monthly retainers and not hourly bills. Cost moves with the number of practice areas, attorney profiles, intake integrations, the depth of SEO work, and whether an existing website is being migrated. We confirm the exact quote after a free review.

A solo or starter website usually takes 1 to 2 weeks, a growth website with a page per practice area 2 to 4 weeks, and a redesign with migration 3 to 5 weeks. Yes. We are based in Houston, Texas, and work with firms across the metro including downtown and the Harris County courthouse district, the Galleria, the Energy Corridor, Sugar Land, Katy, Pearland, Cypress, and The Woodlands. We also build for firms across Texas, since the work happens online from first call to launch.

We build with State Bar of Texas advertising expectations in mind and keep outcome promises, result claims, and guarantee language out of the design and copy structure. We are a web and SEO studio, not a legal ethics advisor, so your firm reviews and approves the final wording, disclaimers, and any advertising filings before launch.

Yes. The Squarespace website is registered in your firm's name and you own all of it, including the domain, the content, the code, and the schema we write for you. We build with clean, modular blocks so your team can update attorney bios, practice areas, and contact details without breaking the layout. Care plans are optional, with no retainer lock-in.

A website you own sits on your own domain and Squarespace account, and every page, ranking, and piece of content stays with the firm if you change providers. A directory-hosted or subscription website is usually rented, so the pages and any search visibility built on them can disappear when the subscription ends. Ownership is the single most expensive detail most firms discover too late.

We build a dedicated page for each practice area rather than one overloaded services page, write proper titles and descriptions, add legal and local schema, and keep the website fast. That gives the website a strong foundation for competing in relevant searches. Results vary by practice area, market, competition, and starting position, and we do not guarantee rankings or case volume. Anyone who does is guessing.

Yes. We rebuild the design while protecting the pages and search visibility the firm already has. Old URLs are mapped to new ones with 301 redirects, page titles and content are carried across, and we monitor Search Console after launch. This matters most for firms leaving a directory-hosted website, where the old URLs usually disappear when the subscription ends.

Yes. We work with firms across Texas including Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, and Fort Worth, and outside the state as well. Houston is where we are based and where we know the competitive picture best, but the build process is the same wherever the firm sits.

Every package includes aftercare support, two weeks on the Starter and longer on the others, so you are not left alone with a new website. After that you can run it yourself, which the clean build makes realistic, or move onto an optional month-to-month care plan covering updates, speed checks, schema upkeep, and Search Console monitoring. There is no lock-in either way.
